Internship Post 10

Dates: 7/19/17 - 7/21/17

Activities: updating on my work, editing Intranet pages,

Technical Information: OpenText TeamSite

Reflection: There was an ice cream social! Dymir and I went to the cafeteria of the other campus and had ice cream along with all the other Lenovo interns including Scotty and Shounak. On my last day, I did work as normal, somebody from another department emailed me asking what I had worked on these past few weeks so I could transfer my current works to him so he could continue on them. Mr. David also gave me one last page to edit which was simple changing links and editing some information on the page. Mr. Terufumi also gave me content to upload but he asked that I used the test mode instead to make sure it was accurate before letting it go live on the intranet. I used the test mode after inputting the information and sent him the link but he didn't have access so in the end I decided to just screenshot the page and send it to him before I submitted the page. Problem solving! AOIT skills! Anyways. The legal department had a lunch brought in on Thursday from a Mediterranean place, really good food! We all ate together in one of the meeting rooms and each of my coworkers/superiors talked about what they thought they would become as they grew up and how they got here. Several of them had actually planned to be in law but some had planned to be musicians, mathematicians, even teachers, yet there they were at Lenovo. The last day was a Friday  most everyone leaves early on Fridays, around 2/3pm. I went in later at around 9 pm and stayed until 5 pm and I left my laptop and badge there, sad to see it go :(. Mr. David was one of the few people left and he walked me out after signing some of my AOIT papers. I really enjoyed my time at Lenovo.

This entire internship experience might truly be the most beneficial short-term event in my whole life. Although it was only a 6-week program, it has taught me so much whether it be about the real world, school applications in real life, or even about myself. I got to apply a lot of skills AOIT taught me including soft skills like interacting with other professionals in the work field. Even though I didn't use much technology I learned in AOIT, I attribute my quick learning skills to my placement in the program. Working at Lenovo taught me the basics of working as a member of society in which there are times to get up and times to leave every weekday. This internship also inadvertently helped me decide what I want to do in the future. Even though this internship was so fun for me, I realize that a desk job is not for me, I could not sit at a desk for 8 hours everyday. Even though I so deeply enjoy working with coding and web design, the office environment is not for me. Meeting all the people in my department was delightful and so many of them helped me along the way and for that I am extremely grateful. I not only met new people and made new friends but I also got closer with people from AOIT, including Heather, Shounak, and Scotty. This whole internship was easily the most memorable thing I will ever know and I took many things from the experience. I would not hesitate to do something like this again.
