Internship Post 3

Dates: 6/20/17 - 6/22/17

Activities: Updating Intranet pages and transferring files to FINDit

Technical Information: OpenText TeamSite, FINDit

Reflection: These few days were dedicated mostly to the FINDit project because the content owners were too busy to provide me with content to add to the Intranet pages. The FINDit project involved the website FINDit and the Intranet lenovocentral in which I transferred about 100 documents or so. The process was extremely time consuming and took up the course of about a week or more (ie 40 or more hours) because I had to download files from the Intranet, then upload each individual document to FINDit and file it as a certain type of file with certain parameters for each file type. And then link each uploaded document to its place on a FINDit webpage. It is nice to be helpful even if it was a lengthy process.

Mr. John also came to me with some requests to edit the Intranet pages, just simple tasks like deleting a few links from the navigation bar and adding in already-written content. The software used to edit the Intranet is extremely easy to navigate and I enjoy using the user-friendly site. It's about as hard as using this blogger, really.

My classroom experiences have not really prepared me for this internship as much as AOIT has. The only real classroom experience similar to this professional internship would be having deadlines for homework or projects. But even in this internship I don't think I actually have a set deadline to edit websites. The AOIT program has really helped because without all the resume and interview prep, I highly doubt I would have gotten this internship. I actually would not have even known about this internship with AOIT and I would not even have taken the classes to get the qualifications for the position! Prior to this internship, I wish I had learned how to use Microsoft Outlook because it's a pretty big part of the desk-job life but it wasn't too hard to click around and figure out how to use the program. I actually wish I had learned more soft skills / people skills. I'm still shy around new people, especially adults are difficult for me to converse easily with. But I think this internship has already taught me a lot about soft skills, and for that I'm grateful.
